Random Friday #4

Welcome, Fatherhood Friday visitors! (Yes, I'm aware I'm not a dad...but the members of dad-blogs are very welcoming to the womenfolk, too).

Sorry about yesterday's text getting smaller and smaller. I have no idea what happened there - and I couldn't fix it, no matter how hard I tried.

* * * * *
What in the world would require the "rinse only" cycle in the dishwasher? Couldn't you just hand wash/rinse it? I'm thoroughly confused (and, obviously, have never used this option). Has anyone out there used this?

* * * * *
I use two spoons at mealtimes with Peanut. One for me to feed her; the other for her to play with (so she won't snatch the food one out of my hand...as she so frequently does). Recently, I had to upgrade to three spoons because she steals BOTH spoons - one for each hand. I'm all about being a kid and exploring and having fun, but when you use your spoons like this...

...and prevent me from getting food into your mouth, then we've got issues.

Consequently, I go through NINE spoons a day. Ugh. My hands are chapped from all of the spoon-washing I have to do each day.

* * * * *
We have dance parties in our household. The who, what, when, where and why doesn't matter - if someone calls out "dance party!" you drop everything and dance. Typically, this has been during dinner prep time (when ShankRabbit is home). I can't explain how proud I am to see Peanut sitting on the floor laughing and bouncing to the beat of the music. *tear*

In honor of this, I will be posting a "dance party song of the day." I think I'm going to do this on Mondays and Wednesdays - because, let's face it, Mondays and Wednesdays tend to drag along (at least for me). If you have a song that you'd like to recommend for our dance parties, please post a comment or drop me an email. I love discovering new music.

Buuut...since I'm thinking about it, I start one off for the weekend -

Artist/Band: Motion City Soundtrack
Song Title: The Future Freaks Me Out
Kid-friendly?: There is one f-bomb in there, but I typically sing "Ah, flip it!" really loud over that part.

When I do a wash cycle on a cool setting it doesn't empty all the water all very well. So then I put it onto the just rinse cycle for a minute. I'm sure that's not what it's for but I would have very soggy washing without it!

I've used the rinse cycle when I'm just needing to rinse down a bunch toys, for example. On my washer, the rinse cycle is still hot water so it seems more sanitizing...

Speaking of dance parties, a guy I went to college with is now a meteorologist in Cincinnati and he does the morning show and he does Dance Party Fridays. Bob Herzog. I forget which station... but if you google him, I'd imagine you could find him and I know there are videos of his dance parties on the website...

When we were still feeding our little girl with a syringe she would swing her arms about and block her mouth with her hands. . it became a game of being able to slip the syringe past her phlanges just to feed her.

So you're saying they do that with spoons too? Well played. . .

This post had me smiling. I think it was the combination of not knowing why the font kept getting smaller, the dishwasher aside and the princess bride imagery set to spoons and mother and child. Dance party rocks. I will have to institute that around here.

I love random thought type posts. I have no idea what any of the washing machine is for. It is funny how you forget things when you get married. I do cook, clean, do the dishes and other stuff but the washing machine is a mystery.

That is funny, we went to the two spoon method with our little man. Instead of taking my spoon away from me, he uses his like a sword and knocks the food off mine so that it goes all over him.

i love lg fuad from motion city soundtrack. that dancing thing sounds cool. yes, i've used the rinse option TWICE. the town we live in has been having ant probs. they've been invading my dishwasher...hence the rinse option, then i promptly finish loading the dishwasher and wash on the sanitize cycle lol

I work and watch baby on Fridays, and we have Friday afternoon rockin' dance parties (which consists of me playing hip music, holding Bea in my arms, and dancin' around).

Good times!

We need to crank some good tunes to get the house cleaned too. I usually breakout some old school house music...

at first I thought it said you had dance parties in your NEIGHBORHOOD (vs household). I was just imagining that...like, do all the houses have a speaker in them for the announcement, or does someone go outside with a megaphone and shout it, and everyone in the neighborhood starts dancing??

It makes a little more sense when I re-read it and it's just in your house ;)

I see no reason why someone would use the rinse only cycle on the dishwasher. Seems like a waste of energy.

I used to have a dj setup in the living room when my girls were younger and I would spin house music but they really dug the '80's stuff, especially Madonna. I have a cute video I'll have to post sometime of them dancing to "Vogue". Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday. I like the musing style of your post and look forward to reading more!

@ Scriptor Senex - Like I said, I have no idea what it's for...but at least you found a way to use it (on your washing machine I'm guessing)...you're more creative than I/me (<-I never know which one to use there).

@ Liz - ah, now that makes sense. Toy disinfecting...why didn't I think of that? And if my speakers worked on my computer, I'd look up that guy...but alas, they don't.

@ New-Dad-Blog - LOL. I guess this is something they know how to do their whole life. At least I know she could hold her own in a sword fight. :)

@ Joeprah - I highly recommend the dance party. No matter what kind of day you had, dance parties always make them better (especially when you can watch a kid dance).

@ the letters i wish i'd written - goooood song. There's no way I could get through that without at least bopping my head. Such a fun song...though the message is a little sad. lol

Otter Thomas - I was referring to the dishwasher, but the washing machine has a similar feature. All these new-fangled doohickeys...don't know what to do with 'em. I remember when we'd have to wash our clothes in the stream...uphill, both ways. ;)

PJ Mullen - Hahaha...she used to do that. She figured out that if she just stole it from me, she doesn't have to wear the food. Although, her new things is to take her food-coated hands and play with her hair. Ugh.

@ Ciara - huh...another creative use for that rinse only cycle. See? I have no clue when it comes to stuff like that.
I remember we had an ant problem when I was in high school - same thing, they invaded our dishwasher. I thought Raid would help...which it did. However, I didn't think about what the dishwasher was used for. Raid+dishes you eat off of = issue. :)

@ KWG - Yay for dance parties! Sometimes I hold Peanut...but she's such a tank it gets tiresome.

@ Craig - I'm really weird when it comes to cleaning music. Some days it's pop or punk...others it's show tunes. You don't know livin' until you've scrubbed your toilet to "Les Miserables." ;)

@ Katie - haha...though, that would be fun! It would be like a neverending block party!

@ Mocha Dad - totally agree. Though, for toy disinfecting, it makes sense.

@ John Wildermuth - A DJ setup...with Madonna?! Man, I'm jealous. Let me know when you post the video, I'd love to see it. :)

Dance party? What a great idea. Talk about a lesson in letting go of the stress of life and living it up. I love playing some blues on my guitar and making up goofy blues songs with the kids. It's easy and lots of fun.

@peteej - awesome! If I only knew how to play my guitar better...but I let my little one take care of that. She's really good at strumming! :)
